Wine fit for St. Patrick's Day

I've never seen a wine bottle that is such a brilliant green color so I absolutely had to photograph it. That's not the reason I bought it, but that would have been a good enough reason. I bought it because juice from my 162nd and 163rd grape species -- Sauvignon Gris and Muscadelle -- were blended with Sauvignon Blanc to make the wine.

    Setup
The background is translucent white acrylic. A medium continuous-light lamp fitted with a yellow gel is shining from behind it toward the subjects and camera. A medium continuous-light lamp is on the left front and a small continuous-light lamp is on the right front. White foam core on the right side acts as a reflector and a flag.

Mike, this is a nice photo. Did you add a slight vignette?

    Wonderful colour.

Is it better as it is, or would a straightening of the verticals make it stronger?

Thanks, Bruce. Part of the vignette is created by the lighting. I wanted to control all of it that way but physical limitations made that impossible. So, I used a post-processing vignette to finalize it the way I envisioned it in the first place.

That's a viable choice that some would surely make. I intentionally positioned the camera to create just a tad of perspective distortion to add a bit of drama to the scene, so I chose not to negate that characteristic during post-processing.

Mike, the use of the translucent acrylic and the backlighting has given this a beautiful luminosity. Lovely colour. The slightly brighter label in the centre completes the comp. Was this down to the lighting or has there been some PP here as well. Nice image.

Mostly the lighting. There is always some post-processing done to fine tune things but the basic look such as everything you mentioned is always produced by the lighting.

That's a good lesson for a lot of folk - the fact that this was a deliberate, creative choice. That it was a decision made and not an accident, is the important point.

I am a teetotaler so I cannot comment on your choice of wine but I like what I am seeing here and has no expertise in at all in wine bottles arrangement so I lack on commenting on this one too...good shot. I like transparent green..

Loved it Mike Donald's question about verticals came to my mind too as soon as I saw the image. But then your answer too came to my mind immediately without seeing your answer I already knew that it would have been very careless of you to leave the verticals incorrect and I already knew that you shot and left them as they are deliberately.

Great light and color and IMO those bottles deserve some other compositions too

Lovely shots. Although I wonder about the title - I've not met and Irishman (or woman for that matter) celebrating St paddy's day with a glass of wine, let alone classy wine !

    Very nice Mike.

I am intrigued by the green on the label on the neck (Is label the right term there)Is that colour a result of a reflection from the foam core or the material it is made from?
