Dachau - C&C Welcome
Some photos I took during my visit to Dachau Memorial in Munich over the last weekend. To say the least a very moving experience that everyone should see at some point in their life.
I appreciate any feedback on the photos, my focus was composition and post processing Thanks

Nicely done on both for composition and processing. I suppose you could try a bit of post processing fill light on the barbed wire.

Re: Dachau - C&C Welcome
Erik,
Interesting images. I think the second is much more powerful because it conveys a bit the perspective of a prisoner, looking through barbed wire.
Have you thought about black and white? I think it would improve them--in particular, the first, because the bright blue sky seems cheerful, which is not the emotion one would want.

Re: Dachau - C&C Welcome
Thanks Dan, John and Izzie.
Here are the B&W versions of the above. Certainly a different feeling....
I think that #2 is still my favorite and better in color. Certainly #1 with B&W conveys a different feeling and accurate feeling.
Izzie - if you are interested in the rest you can find them here along with some of the other photos I took in Munich. Like here I welcome any comments, thoughts or questions.
Sadly I do not do as good a job narrating the photos on SmugMug as I do elsewhere...I need to get better at that.
I will probably post my thoughts and reflections in the off topic section so as to keep this focused on the photos....as I said before this is something everyone should see.

Both of my parents' entire families were murdered in the Holocaust. These photos are very emotional to me. Thank you for posting.

Re: Dachau - C&C Welcome
I get terrible feelings whenever I view images or videos of Dachau. Auschwitz or any of the other concentration camps. They are a prime example of how inhumane, so called humans can be...
I had a cousin who was a newspaper editor and an Ethnic German of the Catholic faith who was sent to a concentration camp as a result of his anti Nazi editorials, luckily he survived the ordeal. His two sons (who both emigrated to the USA in the 1950's) were in the German military. Both were sent to the Eastern Front to fight as punishment for their father's activities. I met them when they came to America. Both did very well for themselves in the USA. Their stories about fighting in Russia were horrendous.

Re: Dachau - C&C Welcome
I was talking with a friend today and the subject got on to the fact that, quite incredibly and beyond my understanding, we still have holocaust deniers in our midst. And having spent a whole day walking around Auschwitz 1 and Auschwitz 2 (Birkenau) in 1992, I can testify to the profound impact such an activity has on you.
The images in this thread capture the sense of these horrendous places.
