    Some Recent Shots for CC

A Great Blue Heron flying with it's prey a second time. Notice the second puncture wounds on the fish, he got interrupted when he put it down the first time so had to re impale it to move to safer ground.

A Shrike also known as "The Butcher Bird" they impale their prey on barbed wire to enjoy a little at a time. If you see a snake, lizard or small rodent hanging on barbed wire this may be the reason.

Nicely done, good use of diagonals in composition or backgrounds.

Barbara, my long time ambition since I was young was to catch a fly with my chopsticks. Honest...!!!

Having got that failure to do so for a long time mentioned, I truly like the two shots of the Scissor Tail Flycatcher...do they really catch flies??? Just wondering.... The colourful feathers is what attracted me to the second shot whilst at the first, is the sharpness....

All the comps here are excellent, Barbara...not that I do not like the rest of them, the two last ones are very good too and the reportage are informative...especially the Butcher's bird. Must be scary to all its victims knowing they really have no chance at all to even escape its claws...

What I like most about nature is that they kill and eat and sometimes share what they caught...they never do any trading at all like people needed to, to survive....

Izzie that is too funny! You still have plenty of time to get it done!

Yes they actually do catch flies, as well as all kind of insects. Great for the environment and all the while looking lovely as they do it.

Some may say that the background is too busy, are maybe the tail drops out of focus on that first one.

    I like, nice capture.

Re: Some Recent Shots for CC

These are all very impressive, but I do like the first two.

I have been looking for a good picture of a Great Blue Heron. I was on the Isles of Scilly in early June and they recently had a Great Blue Heron there. I had taken some shots of a heron on our first day, and I was hoping that the bird was a Great Blue, but looking at your picture, it was unfortunately clear that mine was the common European Grey Heron. They are remarkably similar!
