Elephants in Chobe National Park, Botswana, Africa

One of the events my wife wanted to witness in Africa was elephants swimming. We were on a boat on the Chobe River when a family of elephants swam the river. There was another family on the shore that greeted them. Then after a while the other family swam across the river to from where the original family had come. This is a photo of when the original family arrived at the shore.

I have often wondered whether they really swim, with feet not touching the river bed, or not.

Looking at this, I think the smaller one, on the extreme left, is almost certainly swimming.

    Nice shot, Dave

Thanks for all the feedback. Dave, they all were swimming. In the middle of he river all you see is a little of their backs and their trunks sticking out of the water. Hippos can't swim. They walk across the bottom, so require shallow water.
