Both seem to have been adapted to the "American" palate; heavy on salt and low on spices. I suspect that much of the American Chinese has more of a Cantonese influence. That being said the higher end restaurants in both Italian and Chinese cuisine can be an exception to what I have written.
In Holland we have a Chinese, Indonesian, Chinese and Surinam community. The Surinam exists again mostly of Creole, Hindu and Java, still each of them with there own food. I like to eat roti, original an Hindu recipe and taken over by the Creole. But I never eat roti at a Java or Chinese restaurant.

In Holland we have Ketjap Manis and Ketjap Asam. Indonesian sojasauces. One is sweet and the other is salt.

    I'm getting hungry.

Your Wikipedia quote explains a few things Mike. Small levels of production make it unlikely that Red Riesling would be exported. I was clearly privileged - but didn't know it.

Nope. What is it? I tried to google it and I found your message to me here at CiC instead.

I always have a bottle or a 6-pack of Tsingtao beer in my collection because I use it for marinating meat. Initially I bought a 6-pack for Bill to taste but he did not like it. You can find a lot of imported beer from Asia, of course, where? -- at the Asian market, even San Miguel beer but the Aussie ones like XXXX (Four X) at the World Market.

George, wondering what Surinam food taste like, I googled Surinam recipe in the internet and found a few I might try tomorrow...so when we went out to dinner tonight, I told everyone not to order chicken because we will have chicken tomorrow night for dinner...

Lol. Probably because I misspelt it. Try googling Rene Pogel. It became 'famous' when people started pronouncing the name backwards.

Maybe off topic. If you can get Madame Jeanette, you should try it. It's all over the Surinam kitchen. It's said to be the hottest pepper in the world. If you took to much, wine won't help.
