    Lough Ouler, County Wicklow

This corrie lake lies in the shadow of Tonlegee Mountain, one of the higher peaks in County Wicklow, Ireland. We chose a day (last Friday) when the weather report looked encouraging but got caught out by strong winds and rain. It cleared as we neared the summit leaving wild scattered clouds and rich green colours in the vegetation.

Looking back northwards as we near the lake. Don't you just love it when the clouds fall nicely into place to complement the contours of the terrain.

Thank you for comments Dan, James and David. I'm fortunate that the set off point for this four hour trek is within one hour's drive from my home. The river alone is well worth exploring and that's for another day.

Thanks John. Broken clouds help greatly with wide open landscape for a more interesting sky and shadows which can emphasise contours. But there's a lot of waiting around to be done, which does my head in sometimes.

Thank you very much for taking us with you on your journey...these shots are beautiful complete with textured clouds and I would have sat down or walk that rocks and wet my feet in #4 shot, follow the water path...Awesome!

Thanks Izzie. We had to cross the river twice and we all (me, daughter, future son-in-law and dog) all got our feet wet. Worth it though. This river goes on like this for miles and there is a dramatic waterfall where it drops off the plateau into a valley close to the much celebrated Glendalough. County Wicklow is full of these rivers with granite boulders strewn randomly left there by erosion and the Ice Age. I think I've just convinced myself to spend more time in the area.

Thanks Chauncey and you are right. I tend to re-visit the best ones in CS6 several times to find the best way to convey what the scene is telling me. The greens were so strong after rain here that it made the process more challenging.
No.2 here needed more input than the rest in this context. No.1 is pretty much straight out of camera with shadow and highlight recovery and curves adjustment separately for sky and land. All shot in RAW.
    Many thanks for comment.
