Really late afternoon/early evening shot...it does have a purple cast.
a very nice, restful composition. However, the tonal range is quite limited. Is that what you intended? I tried three simple adjustments--an overall change in levels, an overall curves adjustment to increase contrast, and a curves adjustment to the sky to increase contrast there--which punched it up some. However, I don't know whether you allow edits, so I am not posting it.
I like the composition, but the purple cast is a bit too much for me.
Hi Chauncy,
I think what is artistically correct is what you like. It's your photo. I tend to like contrast and clarity
What I did with just three quick edits looks more like your new one. I didn't think I did a good edit; I just wanted something to illustrate increasing contrast and dynamic range. I'll post it below.
Dan
The first image really moves me; not so with any of the other versions. The other versions make me think that an attempt to be ordinary is being made. The first version is appealing not just because it is out of the ordinary but because it instills a sense of quiet and peacefulness consistent with a dreamlike state that the other versions don't convey.
Mike, I understand what you're saying and, as hindsight, I agree with you...
as do all my kids that always interject their opinions.
Henpecked by your kids!!! Hey...my friend, it is your house...should be your rule no matter whether they like it or not.... Agree with Mike...as I seemed to be agreeing to many posts around here today because I am late in responding again...also for the same reason he stated...That says a lot...
Artistically I'd always go with your personal preference, you're never going to please everyone.
I like the original edit, I would brighten the sails just a little bit though
