    Salisbury cathedral.

Took this from someone's private garden. I hope she doesn't mind.

    Hi Louise

I think #1 is a HDR shot and some other members might say that it is a bit overdone . I haven't tried HDR yet but I can say that the image looks a bit too crisp and pale and it needs some more fixing with PP. I like the composition in #1 , I would crop the FG just to eliminate the curving brick part as it draws my attention. This crop would also leave less flowers and they would create a kind of balance with the flowers on the upper right hand side of the frame.

#2 looks like a garden shot rather than a cathedral shot but IMO very nice image with lovely flowers. I would crop half of the wooden part on the right hand side. It would be nice to have a bit more sky as the top of the cathedral is too close to the frame if possible and I would also clone the twig on the upper left side of the frame.

In the first, the clouds have a painterly effect which is totally different than the foreground, but I still like it. The flowers on the right side above needs either more to form a border or would have been better if you'd moved a bit to the left. I'm sort of torn between cloning out distractions or getting it right in-camera; sometimes you're forced to take the capture as you see it. I like the treatment to the flowers in the second image; even though the main subject is smaller it still works.

I like the detail and prominence of #1 but the flowers could be cloned out of the sky. A very nice image. I'm not sure about #2 because I think the flowers are a distraction, I would move slightly and try to get the Cathedral on a third.

I am looking at this on my laptop, where the contrast can vary with the ambient lighting. However, I did find that the textures on the catherdral building do look rather flat - as if they could be enhanced.

I like and prefer the effect/process used to create the first image. However, I'm not keen on the format, and there seems to be too much included in the shot. A 2:3 crop would simplify and improve the photograph for me.

    Salisbury cathedral.

    Cheers.
