Eloquent statement! I would consider darkening the car upper left...
Nicely captured.
Richard,
Thanks for commenting.
Your suggestion is interesting. Truthfully, the car's brightness doesn't bother me, as my eye is always drawn to the subject and the sandwich board. But I can easily play with the car in PS and see if darkening it improves the image.

Perhaps even more poignant if converted to mono?
Cheers.

I must have been too sheltered to see scenarios like this one with an actual person sleeping in the street in broad daylight too in full public view. The whole scene looks pitiful. My heart breaks for this person. The sign beside him seems ironic. I've once seen aborigines under trees warming themselves by the fire and was told they were homeless but at least they were in a group and seems to enjoy each other's company...(but I was in a car at the time.)
I remember seeing people sleeping on the grates over the subway in Toronto when I lived there over 40 years ago. I spent some time on business in downtown Toronto pretty well every year since the late 1980s and remember scenes like this one quite frequently.
Unfortunately, it is not a new problem. The homeless people I remember seeing seemed to be men and women from all age groups.
As for the image, I would have to agree that my eyes are drawn towards the hydrant, sign and car at first glance, and then to the person lying on the ground. I like the composition; the materialistic side on the left hand side of the image and the almost empty right hand side, with the person just lying there. This asymmetry works well.
While I understand where Richard's comment, I suspect that darkening the car might take away from this effect. It would be nice to compare both versions.
