Thankyou John 2 and John, I waited for ages and ages before the people almost disappeared, when there was only two I went for it before the next lot arrived with tourist guide. I think they add a bit but tens of them wouldn't.

Cheers Izzie and Binnur, I was standing in a shop doorway and couldn't get further back, crowds of tourists would follow a guide carrying a post with a number on it right in front of me, this happened a lot. In the foreground you can see two bus stops and a bus 1A or 2A would be along every five minutes. Took me half an hour to take one photo and I was right out of energy to take another.

It was even worse at the Spanish Riding School, where I discovered the solution to raise the camera up about 8' on my long monopod use the timer, and then I even discovered the back screen where after a bit of fiddling randomly pressing buttons to get it to work I could even see the subject.
