Is that really a swamp rose? To me it looks more like a malva, as for example the musk mallow.

I imitated your flower shot yesterday and I don't think I can get it as good as you did here...beautiful shot...! I'd be embarrassed with my version ...

I don't know. Being a country boy from Ohio I have always called them swamp roses.

Interesting shot. I'm guessing a mallow, but it would be easier to tell if you have photos of the leaves or the front of the flower.

    Re: Swamp Rose

a quick google search suggests this is a malva, not a rose. Swamp roses look like fully opened cultivated roses, but with far fewer petals. See http://www.fs.fed.us/wildflowers/pla...alustris.shtml. Googling malva gets some reputable sites that show the stamen and anthers look more like those on a hibiscus, like your shot does.

Thanks for checking it out Dan. I think this is a Malva Moschata.

I have always called the roses 'wild roses'.

    This is a different color.

This one below, Ziggy...some hibiscus before they open, looks like this...I am just asking because hibiscus cannot be grown near or on boggy areas.

Another thing is that the hibiscus flowers do not grow in clusters, but solitary, while the mallows have clusters of flowers.

    Re: Swamp Rose

Izzie--good catch. I'm no expert in plant identification--I am learning about flowers mostly because I photograph them--but a quick googling showed that hibiscus are a genera in the mallow (malvaceae) family. E.g., https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Malvaceae. So the hibiscus species that are familiar, like Rose of Sharon and Chinese hibiscus, are cousins (or some such) of the swamp mallow.
