    Leave of Nervilia aragoana

When orchid are mentioned, the focus are always zoomed into its exotic flowers.

nervilia aragoana flower are not exciting. But it leaves are, imo, impressive.

Not what we would expect out of am orchid, but thats the beauty of planet earth. Unique.

It's nice but with the leaf as the only subject I would have the whole leaf in focus.

Nice composition and beautiful lighting. However, I agree with Jim. Even if you have to leave something out of focus (I woudn't), it's usually best not to have the leading surfaces blurred. It's often fine or even a help to have the trailing edges blurred. In this case, though, I would want it all sharp. I'm guessing that this leave is deep enough that you would need to stack.

I had shot of it with the whole leaf in focus. But it did not translate to what I wanted to portray. I want to the leaf to be larger than life. The angle was to to show that it towers over the photographer, and the dof to make it look as if it was very wide.

I actually tilted the lens by 5 degree so that I can dof.

In that case, did you try a version with the front sharp but the back of the leaf fading into blur? I'd be curious what you think of the comparison.

I face this often because there is often a part of the flower much closer than the part I want to be the center of attention.
