    A different look

Everybody who has ever been to Paris and had a camera, took a picture of the tower. Probably many pictures. It's impossible to get a different perspective because it's all been done. However, it is a magnificent structure and adds greatly as a backdrop to other pictures. This image was taken from the Seine as we left the doc. Lots of people were just enjoying being by the river and watching life pass by. C&C welcomed.

I'm not sure how well this will link in. It did seem to work OK on the test thread. Best to click on it to see it correctly.

Interesting way to look at it too...looking at this shot closely, there seems to be some different poses here that indicates tiredness (from shopping?), just chatting and/or reading and of course the inevitable cell phone accessing...nice idea...sometimes the simpliest is the simple.

I think this would have been a stronger composition had you avoided including that large metal structure in the background.

I write that half jokingly as I do find that you would have a stronger composition had you excluded most of the ground level. The story in the image is the people waiting for the bateau-mouche, more so than the Eiffel Tower.

I like this view of the tower. To me, the scene is spoilt by the large sign with the red tower on it and the shed which looks like a ticket office. It would quite a challenge to get rid of these though.

Very detailed structures, I've seen many pictures of the tower but not a close up like this. Thanks for sharing Eric!

I do agree. I did want to leave part of the tower in place to indicate more strongly a sense of place, and that the tower becomes just another "thing" when it's part of your daily life. A tighter crop may work better. Thanks for the comments.

Thanks, and yes, that darned sign damages the image. It is what it is. I'm not good enough with Photoshop to even remotely think of trying to remove it. Part of visiting there is the commercialism. All the little shops selling ghastly tower replicas, all the ticket booths, and other attractions, it's quite distracting. One of the worst little trinkets I saw was a baseball with an Eiffel tower and "Paris" printed on it. Really? A baseball?

Yes. I was trying to go for that mixture of daily life when you just happen to live in one of the world's greatest cities close to an iconic landmark, and the tourist experience of seeing all of that. I also wanted to capture the immense size of that tower. It's more impressive in real life than you would expect even after seeing it on TV hundreds of times.
