    Lightroom Develop presets?

    Hi everyone,

Do you make use of Lightroom Develop presets (note I do mean presets, and not plug-ins)? Have you ever bought or acquired any?

I do make use of a couple of the General built in presets, but in general no. I wonder if I'm missing a trick.

Apologies of this has been asked before, but I couldn't find it (and anyway, things change )

I've tried the built in presets but I generally don't like the results. They are quite similar to using the AUTO exposure function, to me the highlights get blown out by default. I use NIK plug-ins and often find I have to tweak these over the default settings as well. If I'm not mistaken, you can create your own presets based on your own workflow.

Hey Dave...it's my bad that I've never availed myself of them as I would think, for the visually
impaired such as myself, that scrolling through a ton of them would help determine in what
    direction to take an image.

The only presets I regularly use are ones I've created myself. I've created a set that do nothing except apply a camera profile such as "Camera Standard", "Camera Landscape" etc.

For Nikon raws the default Adobe Standard profile isn't usually optimum, so when importing images, I apply a develop preset that applies the profile that I reckon is going to be the best starting point for that shoot (normally Camera Standard - sometimes one I've made with Colorchecker Passport).

Dave I use ACR rather than LR but the same principles apply. I use a starting preset on every image I process, containing the following adjustments

    Camera profile
    Automatic lens correction
My standard starting point for capture sharpening and noise control
A small amount of Clarity and Vibrance

I have made a few of these presets for different ISO settings used (different noise reduction)

The approach is aimed at getting me quickly to a good starting point for further editing with steps that are always required and may not need further adjustment.

    Re: Lightroom Develop presets?

I use presets I have created on just about all of the images I develop. My Nikon D200 and D800 require different initial adjustments particularly sharpening and noise handling. For work I often use the D800 in DX mode with higher ISO (house interiors and only smaller files required) and so there is a preset for these images as well.

For me being able to customise presets is an important feature of Lightroom.

Setting camera profiles is also an option that I have not investigated fully but I find develop presets easy to use and very flexible.
