I like it Neville, I think you've got the composition spot on. The layers of cloud and the sparkling water add interest too. Nice work.

As Dave says, the clouds versus the water make this one. Great contrast of textures and each intriguing.

You also got a nice effect of thick. bulky clouds thinning out as they reach the horizon. Gives it depth.

    I enjoyed that.

Thank you Binnur for that. The dark object in the distance is a marker buoy warning of shallow sand banks roughly 3 to 5 miles from the shore. These are a hazard to even small craft and at times can be seen above the surface.
Thanks also to Dave and Max for your comments.

I like the simplicity of it Neville and that changing sky.

So sharp and not to take anything away from the yacht, the sky makes the shot.

    Re: Sailing

Thank you Graham, Grahame and Izzie. I often throw the camera with 28-300 over my shoulder when taking Rosie (black Labrador) for her daily walk on the beach, never expecting to see anything worth shooting at this time of the year. This Irish registered yacht with French flag came by about a mile or so off shore and I liked the way it was working the strong wind together with the dramatic threatening clouds overhead. I will admit to a little exaggeration in the sky.

Thanks for that Izzie. Rosie is a happy 12 year old black pedigree Labrador. My wife bought her for me as a gift after my retirement mainly as a walking companion when trekking the mountains of Wicklow (Ireland) with camera. At 12 years the mountains are beyond her scope now but she has never lost her sense of fun and now enjoys a quieter life style.

I have a 'gallery' on my website devoted to photographs of Rosie from a three month old puppy to recently at

    http://www.ndukes.net/albums/rosie-the-labrador/

This is one taken recently of Rosie retrieving a stick from the sea.

Clouds work for me Neville, lots of drama from the top then softening below leading into a iconic sailing image.
I would probably clone out the buoy if it was my image.
    Very nice, love it
