    Hosier Lane

Just got back from a short trip to Melbourne as a birthday present for my wife Cindy, we had a great time and I was fortunate to get some photo's of a young graffiti artist at work in a well known location, Hosier Lane.
I got some before and after shots and will post some others I captured there as I edit them.

You mean this is legal now? Well, I googled it and yes, it is legal and right near Federation Square...when my son was about 10, he went with a classmate who did graffiti on a wall near his state school and was not able to run when the police came. He was put in jail along with his classmate despite that he was not caught with any paint can because he is just watching. I was called at work to get him out. No police record for him but he was shocked and numb from crying. I didn't know whether to laugh or pity him. The two were put in jail with a "scary big man"...he is a grown up now but he remembered that incident very well...strange how time flies...

OH btw, good shot. I just didn't like the finished product much...

Changing times Izzie, if you can't stop it make it legal, seems to be the way things are going in the world now

Well this is better than making drugs legal...graffiti does not really harm anyone and some of them are really good artists, they just do not have an outlet for their arts..

OFF TOPIC : when I was back there I heard on the news that 4 guys who were involved in drug trafficking were scheduled to be shot by firing squad...

If you are referring to the two Australian guys Andrew Chan & Myuran Sukumaran that got caught in Indonesia selling drugs, things didn't end so well for them. They were executed just after Cindy and I came back from Bali in March. We saw the fighter jets doing training runs for when they were escorted to the island of execution.

No, this was way back in February...there were 4 men scheduled to be shot by firing squads. I was quite disturbed by the news, actually surprised because it is different here altogether how the authorities treat drug felons but over there they execute them...I was with my eldest son at the time going to Werribee and he said they do not deserve to die quick, that they should be boiled to death, etc...I couldn't believe what came out of his mouth! I have not heard him speak so badly of anyone while growing up and suddenly I was with this "stranger" who is so angry about these guys who was about to be executed by firing squad and he was talking of firing squads like as if it is too quick of a death sentence...I really think my son had grown up too quick -- must be the environment...I am just glad he doesn't have a sailor's mouth or I would have asked him to stop the car and make him eat soap!

I'm confused Izzie, did you hear the bad guy's were to be executed by firing squad here in Oz.
That just doesn't happen. They get looked after better than pensioners that have worked and paid taxes all their lives

That was what I heard ... and my son and I discussed it at length too that day...I even told Bill when I called him up here. Maybe I was wrong about the place...but I heard what I heard...

Anyway, getting back to topic, do you have anymore to share with us with your trip to Melbourne? How was the trip? Did you get to see other places too? This graffiti place you went to I had listed in my places to go when I go back there next, which will be soon -- I missed my grandchild...she is 2.5 years old now...I was there on her birthday..

I don't know how I missed these Greg. Loads of colour and interesting. Nice series. Hope the trip didn't eat into the photo fund too much.

Took a few other shots but nothing worth posting here Izzie.
I didn't want to make it a photographic outing for me it was more about spoiling Cindy for her birthday which I think I managed pretty well.
Took her on the Colonial Tram Car Restaurant the first night. Fine dining as you travel through the streets at night was one of the highlights http://www.tramrestaurant.com.au
Lots of shopping and went up the Eureka tower to the viewing deck 88 floors up. Spectacular 360 degree views of Melbourne.
Now back to work tomorrow to repair the damage done to the wallet

Izzie ... it was in Indonesia that the Australians were shot. From the names it sounded like they were Chinese Aussies.
