I think you are looking at the right one, the G suffix means it has no aperture ring, the pic I saw of a D lens does. The only foolproof way to ensure AF on a D3000 (and similar) is to ensure it says "AF-S".
It is easy to get put off-track by supplier's websites where they may not list all the prefix and suffix letters and you think you found a bargain and it turns out to not be the lens you started looking for. Can you tell I so nearly got caught like this myself?
