    Dashama festival - Idol preparation

    India is a country of festivals. Once monsoon starts and festival season also starts. From July till March, so many festivals we celebrate .

    Here is one photograph I am sharing with you all, which was taken very recently. The artist is making an idol of Goddess Dashama, as the Dashama vrat will start from 15th August onwards for 10 days.

    Dasha = Condition
    Ma = Mother
    Vrat = Fasting

    This festival is celebrated to worship Goddess Dashama, for the betterment of our life condition. For 10 days ladies worship the goddess idol which is made of clay and keep fast. On the 10th day the Idol is departed in river. If I get an opportunity to click some pic of celebration, I would surely share those with you all. I am sure, you will enjoy !!

    Your C & C are most welcome !!

    Regards,

    Tejal

    This is very colourful...and interesting write-up of part of your culture...you are improving on the narrative too. Good job there is in order! When you say women fast for 10 days, it means really not eating anything for 10 days? Are they allowed to even drink anything, water for instance? or fruit juice or vegetable juice. I will die if I do not eat...but that is just me...Also when you say at the end of the 10th day, these idols will go to the river, do you mean drowning the idol in the river and leaving it there? Then you would have a lot of them buried in your river...or what happen after the idols get buried in the river...everyone goes home? Why is it that the idol at the front have a tail? What kind of animal is that on the right side? I thought it was a dog at first but it resembles the feet of a cattle...so many questions I know but I am curious...

    Thanks for sharing, Tejal...colourful tradition you have over your side of the pond.

    thnx .

    When you say women fast for 10 days, it means really not eating anything for 10 days? Are they allowed to even drink anything, water for instance? or fruit juice or vegetable juice............ YES THEY TAKE FRUITS, DRY FRUITS AND SOME OTHER FOOD WHICH WE EAT DURING FASTING. SALT WE CAN NOT EAT. VEGETABLES, GRAIN AND PULSES WE CAN NOT EAT. YES IT IS VERY DIFFICULT.

    Also when you say at the end of the 10th day, these idols will go to the river, do you mean drowning the idol in the river and leaving it there? Then you would have a lot of them buried in your river..........THESE IDOLS ARE MADE OF CLAY. CLAY GETS DISSOLVE IN WATER EASILY. WE CAN NOT EITHER BREAK OR LEAVE IT ANYWHERE JUST LIKE THAT. IT IS CONSIDERED AS A DISRESPECT. SO IDOL MUST BE DISSOLVED WITH ENVIRONMENT.

    or what happen after the idols get buried in the river...everyone goes home? ........YES THEY GO HOME.

    Why is it that the idol at the front have a tail? IT IS A DIFFERENT STATUE AND IT IS A SNAKE.

    What kind of animal is that on the right side? I thought it was a dog at first but it resembles the feet of a cattle...IT IS A STATUE OF A DEER. THE VEHICLE OF SOME GOD. NOT SURE WHICH GOD.

    so many questions I know but I am curious... I UNDERSTAND .

    Thanks for sharing, Tejal...colourful tradition you have over your side of the pond......THANKS TO YOU TOO.

    Tejal, you do not mind my correcting you here on your post, not about your response to me, but HOW you did it. You see, capital letters in an email or a post means "shouting". I do not know why, but it is what it means...

    So when you are going to quote someone, e.g., my post for instance, at the top of the Post Quick Reply, (see bottom) there is an icon at the end that looks looks like a page with a little thingie at the bottom. Select the text you wanted to quote, then press that icon. It will enclose the text you selected. And example:

    [.QUOTE]When you say women fast for 10 days, it means really not eating anything for 10 days? Are they allowed to even drink anything, water for instance? or fruit juice or vegetable juice[/QUOTE.]

    Do please ignore the period that I put at the beginning of the word "
    and also at the end of the sentence
    because I only put that there to show you what you should do.

    Then after the word [/QUOTE] press Enter on your keyboard to go to the next line...that is where you type in your reply.

    If you have any question about this process, please do not hesitate to ask. I will respond as soon as I can or any of the moderators will. We all have to go to this same learning one way or the other.

    Thank you, Tejal...

    Oh I am so sorry.... I would like to apologize if I sounded so. I never had such intention. I just wanted to differentiate my reply's fonts. And the method you suggested, i was not aware of it, how to use it for line to line reply. I learnt it and will practice it too.

    Once again sorry and many thanks for your explanation in detail. I will try it for sure .

    Regards,

    Tejal

    No...no...I was just teaching you a method and what the capital in email and forum posting means...so that you will learn its ways. It is "an internet thing". In the beginning of joining a forum or sending an image for the first time, you cannot just sit down and learn everything...and of course we thought we are doing the right thing until someone teaches us. I should had put this in a PM but there are some people who does this too without thinking even though they have already been using the internet for a long time...don't feel bad. OK? If we are perfect, we won't be here on earth...we all have to learn one way or the other. I should be the one apologizing because I wrote this in the open but I know you will not mind...
    Cheers...

    Thanks a lot for your kind words. Actually I was feeling bad as somehow I sounded harsh, about what I was not aware. Conversation method is little tricky on CIC otherwise on facebook and on other groups it is pretty easy. But thanks as I learnt new thing .
