If it were my image I wouldn't crop so heavily, ie; only to eliminate the feeder. The greenery in the background is lovely.
Thank you for passing by this way, Christina. I do appreciate your comments and feedback. I had cropped heavily because of what I saw in other posts (not here, but internet wise...) how they isolate just the bird. I was enlarging some images here too to see how sharp they can do and why can't I do the same...I have seen some images here at CiC which has some quite remarkable sharpness without being too harsh (of course not birds...) and would like to emulate that...and I think Dave Humphries methodology on Unsharp Mask will help a tremendous lot. I have not tried it yet but I will today when I have time...

Izzie, you're getting better with the hummers. I really like the shot, a very interesting position. Maybe a bit more wing captured but this appeals to me; a very ethereal image. One suggestion, tone down the hot spot RHS center.

I have a little crop version on the first page, Jack and in it I had toned down the bright spot. This last one, Grahame asked me for the original NEF file translated to 1500px on the longest side. Maybe today I will come up with something more than I bargain for as the hummers are getting used to me more and more as I changed/moved their feeder to a much better place...

Wing capture is really so impossible at the moment without going through so much expense of setting up and I do not have an enclosed deck at the moment...our structure was blown away by a fierce thunderstorm and we have yet to replace it. It takes strobes to catch some wings, Jack...

Thanks for passing by and giving me some feedback. I appreciate it very much.

Thanks Binnur...I do appreciate your comments too...I am still in the experimenting and it seems that I am in the good graces of the hummers' mom and pop at the moment and they pose for me when I do not have my camera...I am teaching them to behave...
