Thanks for the info Carol...Now I know...I have come to the point that when I looked at my feeder, I will ID them in my head automatically now and this one really puzzled me because I have only seen these on a tree very far away with my telephoto when I hear it tapping on a huge tree in front of my neighbour's house...and so I was sure (at first) that what I saw was a Hairy version. Then yesterday as I was resting in my deck, I saw him! He landed on a tree then on my feeder --- I cannot see the beak (according to Wiki's explanation) so I compare sizes and now I am sure it is the Downy as it is smaller and not as long as a robin...I sure learned something everyday, and this time, it is from you.Thanks a lot...
