Puddles & Panning Practice! (Image Heavy)

I've got a week off and today was the first day I was planning to spend all day out with the camera. That hasn't really come to fruition has it has pored down all day!

I did spot a couple of swans in a mini/lake pond while driving on a dual carriage way and have got some good shots of them to post in the next few days.

But I drove past this massive puddle and seen that there was a car park adjacent to it, which gave me the idea to have a go at panning with the added bonus of some water I've been meaning to try it for a while and forgot until a thread by Rita (I think) with the horses?

So I parked my car awkwardly in the car park so I could shoot through the open side window. Anyway here are my attempts, I managed to get quite a variety of vehicles. There were many more but these are the best!

I think these were all take at 1/40 in shutter priority mode and are more or less SOOC minus a few small crops.

    C&C Welcome.

Nice bit of panning, how much swing were you able to get sitting inside a vehicle?

Nice series - for me the ones where the vehicle is coming towards the camera are the best and of these # 5 is my favorite. The timing on this one is spot on - with the vehicle just emerging from spray that is as high as the van. All you need now is a couple of unsuspecting pedestrians to complete the shot

To be honest John I was a bit restricted with the amount of swing I had, but there was no way I was going out in that rain! Puddles & Panning Practice! (Image Heavy)

The images where the vehicles are coming forwards, towards the viewer, look much better to me.

I think this is a case of needing the closest part of the vehicle to be sharply focused. Or alternatively, everything totally blurred; as with Christina's recent Horse Race experiments.

The sharpness on the front of the vehicle is what I was going for, its harder than it looks!

    Now that's original Matt. No.s 4 and 5 for me. 4 because it's prophetic. 5 because it's spot on.

Now that's what I call making the most of the weather Matt.

I think you're due better weather tomorrow, so I hope you get out.

PS we've got that rain here this evening/tonight.

Good series, esp. #5 and #8.

An opportunity well seen and worked, as others have said Matt the vehicles coming towards the camera work better.

I like #4 too, Matt -- I think John's word of "prophetic" is a nice word. I would have said something else, like the full definition of it...
