The last one, for me, is at least as nice as the others if not better.

A nice set Grahame. I am wondering if there were more boats in the event or just the ones in your images.....just my curiosity.
It is great on this site to see different events from other parts of the world.

    Hi Grahame,

Thank you. Indeed, I adore this image, simply beautiful and a dreamy expanse of the scene. I also love the light and beautiful detail in the first image, and the children in #4 with the layered mountains in the background. All beautifully photographed.

You gave me an idea so I had another look through the bunch to see if I could find more 'dreamy' for you so I wonder if this has any merit?

My favourite is #1 and #4...#1 because of the exposure of what one of the boats really like in as much closeup as you showed and #4 because of the composition, complete with the reflection of the boat. I think #4 is more artistic in nature...I like all of them for the sequential showing of the event itself.

    Hello Vaez

Thank you for commenting on these.

These were all taken from one position near the harbour sea wall with my car very close by as I had to frequently shelter from the rain

Mike I find when shooting subjects such as these it is too easy to concentrate on getting the subject to fill the frame decently and technically right rather than looking at the overall scene. This one has a simplicity to it and is not just about the craft.

Rita, there were around 12 of these large canoes but what is also fun is that before the main race the youngsters get a chance to race theirs.

    Hi Izzie,

Pleased you liked them, it was good practice for the D800 and the 80-400 combination but I'm sure pleased I took the tripod

I am no where near the beach here being in the middle of the US but I will put that in mind for this kind of scenario if I encounter some along the way if we visit some states each month (till late November) from now on...a sea event would have been good...Thanks..
