Brian's photos reminded me that I had a few distant quick snaps waiting to be processed. His images are here:

A not very good picture of a moth

And this is the best I could manage.









It was a dull evening and I was on some rocks at the harbour entrance waiting for the Regatta Fishing Boat Race to start. First shots were with my Canon 70-200 lens which was on my 7D camera at that time. By the time the plane passed over again I had switched to the Sigma 150-500. But the lighting and angles etc were all against me so there is quite a bit of noise and other problems.

A nice series of photos even though you were fighting against the elements. I like the second one the best. But at the risk of being called the "Cropping Nazi" in this room, I would crop it. The interest is in the bi plane, so chop out as much of that overcast sky as you can.

Still a nice series Geoff, 2, 3 and 4 in particular. The A/C has an unusual no. so I Googled it. It turns out to be a bit of a rarity having been built in1940 in Bankstown, Sydney. Part of the RAF's intended War training effort but it never made it to the UK until after the War and a period in the US.

Apparently it belongs to the A17-48 Group’ based in Wanborough, near Swindon, Wiltshire. They might welcome a few images.

I was expecting to see a picture of a butterfly ... or moth. Conditions were against you, but you still did well, Geoff.

I have searched around for that A17-48 Group but so far I can't find any website etc for them; but I will ask around locally and see if anybody who also uses the airstrip has any information.

ps. I did previously try a few tighter crops but thought that might be a bit limiting for future use; so I left them fairly wide at this time.
