Justa Bud (success posting)
After repeated tries and resizing, here's that bud taken with an
on loan 90mm 1:2.8. How did I do?
C&C appreciated

Looks good, now to something more difficult.

Re: Justa Bud (success posting)
Pleasing colours, nice out of focus background and exposure fine. The focus looks a little soft on the red bud and could have been improved by either leaving the focus point as is and stopping down to increase DOF or focusing on the bud.
The cropping is a little too tight and you have cut off the tips of a couple of leaves? or what ever you call the outer bud thingies...
The subject lends itself to a slightly wider portrait crop. Overall you did pretty well.

I suppose this flower is already wide open by now since you shoot it and the time it took to upload... Good shot...

Hi Irene The image seems good to me. I agree with John about trying other subjects.

Thank you John, I may just try bugs if "loan time " doesn't run out to o soon.
Thank you Paul, I will certainly try again and try your suggestions. I appreciate your input.
Thanks Izzie. Yes, it's in full bloom but I will try again on some other bushes. At the moment we are still in thick smoke due to wildfires all around.

Re: Justa Bud (success posting)
Hi Irene,
The EXIF data shows: Canon 5D Mk.III, 90mm, Aperture-priority AE, 1/80 sec, f/14, ISO 1000, Compensation: -2/3.
You have avoided many pitfalls (e.g. blowing the red channel) and used a sensible aperture.
However, the Depth of Field is still inevitably rather too narrow for the subject - the only answer being focus stacking - which I hasten to add is something I have always been too lazy to try!
In summary, you have made the best you could technically for a single shot.
The composition isn't quite what I might choose; e.g. I might give a little more space above the bud.
I'd have to see the ends of the bud casing 'leaves' before I could decide whether the decision to crop them was wise.
I hope my thoughts help, Dave

Re: Justa Bud (success posting)
Thank you Dave. I value your opinion and constructive critique. I did not crop this image in post and yes I could of and should of captured entire bud/leaves. Focus stacking is way above my head but I will certainly push myself to other subjects.
Binnur... Thank you. I appreciate your input! I'm starting to feel "pushed onward.

Re: Justa Bud (success posting)
Nice shot, Irene. I particularly like the contrast between the white hairs on the leaf(?) in the front and the smoothness of the red bud.
