This morning after I put out the bird feeders, this is what I saw atop my tree which serves as our noise barrier by the deck. We have 100% humidity out there and I kept wiping my lens...

1 Hubby said it is not dangerous...



2 Then I saw movement downwards and saw another web and a bee just got caught in it...I have to change my lens to a 105mm and this is the best I can get -- a motion while the spider wrap its victim with his web...I was more fascinated in how he did it so I wasn't watching my sharpness...I wasted a lot of shots here...



and another one...not so good either...

Nice images Izzie. Given the size of the bee, that must be a bee-sized spider. I have to admit that I have only taken one reasonable spider pic in recent years.

Izzie, very nice sequence... I particularly like the angle of #2. The fangs are nice and clear .

Hubby is right, the spider is not dangerous. though, if that is a Yew tree in #1, then that is dangerous, particularly the stone in the berry

Nice compositions and spot on exposure Izzie but the sharpness is a bit off. Thought it was camera shake given you were shooting at 1/40th @105mm but the web above the spider in the first shot and to the left in the second is actually sharp and so I think it is the focus that is a bit off. Hand held?

Thanks Rachel...you just don't know how far away I am from it...trace of trauma when I took a shot of a rounded bellied orange spider one day and someone said it is a most common household one but very dangerous...I saw one yesterday when I lifted a rag to wipe my sandals on the deck...

Yes, that is a Yew tree -- the birds eat the red berries but spit out the stones. The hummers knows the berries are not to be eaten, don't know about the spiders though... .

Yes hand held...I just grabbed the camera nearby on my dinette table after contemplating on the first shot for quite awhile before I decided to take a shot of it...and when I did, I noticed some movement near my hips and saw this bee got caught in another spider web nearby. Then the drama unfolded when the spider came seemingly out of nowhere and enveloped the little fella with his web. I was more interested in the drama than taking the shot hence I just shot and shot blindly while watching how this critter does his job...I may not have another moment like this but at least I will be aware next time and not get too carried away by my pity of the bee who had just been emptied of its innards and juices...I'll do better next time...

Nice set, Izzie.
I'm growing to like spiders. Each winter a number of them move inside and set up webs in the corners of my loungeroom. I've named them Zac, after one of my grandsons who, like them, is too lazy to move. I only object to their sharing my domain when they move into the shower recess, which is silly of them because they can't swim and rapidly wash down the drain.

Greg...try teaching your house spiders how to swim. I found one in the visitor's bathroom the other day and lo and behold! when the run the tap, I saw it swim -- down the drain! nyuk...nyuk...nyuk...

Chuck...with all those beautiful animals and birds you've been photographing, don't wish for smaller ones....please...you might regret it. I will have the opportunity to shoot bigger birds soon...not soon enough...still polishing our plans for a trip for our wedding anniversary.
