    Re: How to get EXIF data

    I have a question for all you EXIF gurus. I want to add data such as camera, lens, apperture and exposure details to my scanned film shots. I've looked at PhotoMe and while you can edit existing fields (which appear to be added by CS4) I cant find a way to add fields.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Hi, Peter;

    In the PhotoME "how-to" page, it tells how to create a new IPTC tag. It notes that it only works for JPG files. Maybe someone who uses the PhotoME can try it for you.

    Cheers,
    Rick

    Hi Rick,

    Thanks for that. Unfortunately it dosen't give me the fields I was after. I want to add the shooting information and camera details but that is not available with the option you suggest.

    I'm not sure what system you're using, but Exiftool can write tags as well. It seems it can also add tags, and it can handle multiple files in one run.
    There is a mention about undeletable tags/tag groups, not sure if that implies they can't be rewritten.

    Although the man page claims the original file is kept, I'd do my experiments on a copy of the original...

    Hope this helps...

    I'm currently using PhotoMe, I'll give your suggestion a go.

    ExifTools does allow me to add camera and exposure details so thanks for that. I can now record the shot details with the scanned image instead of a seperate note.

    Excellent: thanks for the suggestion, Remco, and thanks for closing the loop on this, Peter, so everyone knows.
