Worker - Atsuta Shrine

Atsuta Shrine is one of the most revered Shinto shrines in Japan. It has been at this location in Nagoya for close to 2000 years.

One always hopes to capture one of the traditionally dressed people from the shrine that show up from time to time. I caught this one pulling a cart with wood in it across one of the open areass.

I like the composition I couldn't reach the exif data but I think the shutter speed was slow as there is some motion blur and sharpness issue in the image.

SS is 1/80th at f/8 with a 70mm focal length. There is definitely some motion blur on the arm and hand, but the rest of the image is reasonably sharp.

I like the bit of blur as it shows some movement. I often try for this but usually the shot does not work the way I want it to; in this case it does.

I have no problem with the bit of motion blur in the man's arm, and for me the degree of sharpness in the image is fine. Not perfect, but good enough.
For me everything in this shot works except for the woman walking into the background.
All else has the feel of an earlier time, except for her clothing and the red-badged bag she's wearing.
Its as if she is an anachronism in a period photograph.
I know it is often virtually impossible to get scenes such as these without the intrusion of unwanted figures, but I really think this shot would be so much better if the woman was cloned out.

I plan to do exactly that once I get home and have my full suite of editing tools, Robert. Unfortunately, when one is traveling "light", some things have to stay behind.

Hi Manfred, I'm seeing something like an unsharp or out of focus, soft image on my screen although I don't see such a thing on the other images of other threads in CinC right now. I thought bad IQ was because of the slow shutter speed but after reading the exif data, it is obviously not because of the shutter speed. I don't know if I'm the only one seeing the image this way So, if you are seeing a proper image on your screen, please don't take any notice of my comment about sharpness issue. Actually when I saw the image at first, I was a bit suprised with the IQ as the image has come from you

That's where I see it too, Dan. I'm not sure why Binnur is seeing that much blur.

I suspect a data transmission issue as Flickr seems to transmit in two or three passes, and unless the full image comes across, the on screen image can look a bit blurry.

Thanks for clarifying Dan I'm certainly seeing a strange image then, because there is a lot of softness in the image. Well, at least it is better than seeing some dead dog images uploaded by gremlins

Hi again Manfred . I use Google Chrome and may be images from Flickr can be seen worse when viewed in Google Chrome because I have seen comments in CinC from time to time about Firefox being the best. Well, never mind, as I said to Dan before at least I see an image which belongs to you instead of some bad, disgusting image by Gremlins

Binnur, I use Google Chrome too but I see the same as what Dan saw, the blur in the hands and the spokes of the wheel, otherwise the rest is very sharp. What I like in this shot is that the guy is in his traditional work clothes while the lady behind is dressed in pants, modern in comparison...and wow! the place is really neat and tidy...

I tried removing the Western dressed female using content aware fill and it seemed to do O.K. I am sure that when Manfred has access to his full bag of tools, he can do the same or better...

You know...we should commend Manfred here for that image/s he shares with us despite his very limited access to a nicer 27" screen of his. His shots in his travel to Japan is most delightful to look at and very informative of him to share with us the beauty of his surroundings and different culture he encounters while there. I am certainly enjoying his bringing us with him through his shots...
