    Roche Perdrix Jasper National Park

At the entrance to Jasper National Park there are two rockfaces on the south side of the Athabaska River. The more famous westerly one is Roche Miette. This is the smaller one called Roche Perdrix. Someone must have mistaken a ptarmigan for the partridge they were familiar with in France. Supposed to look like the tail feathers of a partridge.

A nice choice for B/W, Trevor. It really brings out the texture of the rock. I also like the composition. It may be my monitor (laptop) but it seems a bit flat with no true black.

The problem I had is the rock is very uniform grey, even with the slanting morning light to emphasize the rock texture it is still very monochrome. I tried to increase the contrast but ended up losing all detail in the shaded rockface to the right. Even when I processed that bit separately in NIK Silver Effex it was still a problem.

Perhaps someone more skilled than me could have brought out more contrast; I elected to quit while I was ahead as I often end up down the rabbit hole if I get too caught up in tweaking the image and weirdness ensues

Hi Trevor, if you have ACR , dehaze slider makes a good job to bring out the texture and add some contrast to the image
