    Thank You

Wow! Condolences from Scotland, Canada, Australia, Tasmania, Turkey, Nepal, Alaska and from all over the Lower 48 States. I am awed and I thank you from the bottom of my heart!

Luckily, my home is still populated with other wonderful dogs, some of whom are our permanent companions: 3-Maltese (two of them rescues), 1-terrier (a rescue) and 1-goldendoodle, plus another half dozen or so dogs, who are either in the process of recovering from surgeries or are being socialized to make great companions. I couldn’t feel sorry for myself with all these wagging tails and smiling faces greeting me on my return from the vet!

    Re: Thank You

Richard, I'm so very sorry for your loss of Mama Mia. I also know the heartbreak of having to say goodbye to our furry family members. Just know that Mama Mia left, knowing how very much she was loved. She will always have that special corner of your heart, that only she resides in.

I second taking many, many photos of your loved ones, whether human or furry, so that you will always have them to cherish.

You will be OK, Richard...I can understand how hard it is to lose a friend...Bill and I am still in mourning with our last one even though we kept reminding ourselves that one day we will meet again. The most painful moment was when his oncologist sent us a copy of his two paws to remember him by (with a nice card and a beautiful message)...

My Heart is On the Ground Richard.

As hard as it was I would rather be there at the end than not. Ripped my Heart out, but the last thing they knew here was their bestest Friend ever holding on tight to them.

I guess that will just have be good enough.

    Damn it.

    Re: My Best Friend Passed

I dumped a vet who put down one of our kitties because 2 years later, they sent us a card reminding us that he needed a check-up. The vet I have now and who has put the other 4 to rest always sends us a little hand written note with her condolences and reassuring us that we did the right thing.

Our first, Burt, is buried in a cat cemetery nearby. We have the other 4 in urns on our mirror shelf, waiting for what seems forever to have them buried on top of Burt, since they were all buddies when they were all alive. Now we have two sisters (4 years old) that only knew the 21 year old. They came in as one month old kittens and the old (male) tabby took them in as their mother. Let them suckle on his fur and all. It probably extended Tigger's life by another year caring for the young ones until they got big enough that they would knock him down to kneed and suckle. I had to put a stop to it at that time. He deserved more dignity than that.

I truly believe he taught the kittens that it is not o.k. to leave the yard. After 4 years, they freely go from the house to the back yard, but never, ever leave the yard. I don't know what else to make of it. The 4 old cats were too old and weak to jump the fences by the time we moved into our current place. Before that, they were strictly indoor cats, but these two are perfectly capable. They just don't.

A sad situation but glad you reacted promptly ...we do not know if animals suffer pain as we humans do but three times I have agonized over pets in the charge of somebody else who couldn't bear to part with them

BTW: please make sure that all of you have at least one good picture of any dog or person that you love!
    Yes I have several.
