I like it...if only the conversion is in question here...your subjects are almost 3D and they are very pronounced with the right edge tones...I am wondering about the girl with the dark sunglasses with the darker skin tone? I would like to see the same of her in a lighter location. I reckon darker colour skins like hers need a bit of work in conversion especially when they are with caucasians...I do not know...just my opinion...
Hi john I like the conversion, may I ask what different method you used for this conversion? I'm not very happy with the half cut heads in the FG though.
Hi Binnur,
I changed my workflow somewhat and in LightRoom:
1. Increased the highlights to 100
2. Decreased the shadows to 0
3. Increased clarity to 100
4. Increased vibrance to 25
5. Increased contrast to 25
6. Did NR in LR.
7. Did a final shadow/highlight adjustment in Elements.
8. Increased contrast again.
9. Sharpened and converted to black and white.
I didn't like the partial heads either and could probably crop to contain just the two ladies and disinterested guy.
Thanks for commenting.
Will you LR work with ACR too? I am interested ...
Tell me about it...I now always use a Xrite Passbook on people to insure correct skin tones.darker skin tones can be a problem when photographed with lighter skinned individuals
LR and ACR algorithms are the same for developing.
John,
I think it is meaningless to show a manipulated photo like this when you are explaining what post-processing you did to the original when that original is not also shown for the sake of comparison.
Also, if this is an image that you are considering keeping as opposed to it merely being an academic exercise in Post-Processing, then I'd suggest you do some serious cropping to eliminate all but the two upper people on our left and the center woman with the curly hair.
Hi Robert,
I mentioned the possibility of cropping in post #5. Showing the original would mean I'd be presenting the color version and I didn't want to change the intent of the post, the intent in posting was to present an image using an entirely different method of post processing. Thanks for commenting.
I don't like showing the originals of my BnW conversions either John, because my goal is usually to show my interpretation of the image (how I see the image). Besides , because I usually follow your threads I can see the difference between your usual BnW conversions and this one. I think Isabel has already seen it too. Thanks again for sharing your workflow
