I especially like #3 with the mannequins seeming to look at the couple. However, I would prefer a closer crop on the models and the couple as well as a bit of color correction.
Nice series, very well lit.
The second one stands out for me because it so nicely shows the interaction between the two men. Consider toning down the bright red thing in the background or convert the image to monochrome, as it attracts too much of my attention.
Thanks for the comments - very useful.
Mike, it's interesting that I did not notice the red object but you are right that it should go and I have changed its colour to make it merge into the background better. I tried converting to blank and white but did not like the result. Perhaps it was my conversion that was at fault but I would have had to go to a lot of trouble to fix it.
Richard, I agree with your comments and the cropping at the top was so obvious that I should have automatically done it. I quite like the black and white conversion and finished up with something very close yours when I did it. This is my new coloured version with my attempt at colour correction.
Oh wow! These are exquisite. Thank you so much for sharing them.
Thanks James.
Mike, thanks also for your suggestion about white balance but I am not sure whether I prefer it to my version. Every time I look at it I want something different. I have been having a lot of trouble lately getting colours and brightness right. I need to get my monitor calibrated for a start but I think also that my viewing conditions are change from time to time. But with this picture there is also a sort of philosophical question. Given that this was taken under principally artificial light, probably fluorescent, should my picture be as I saw it or as it would be under a 'canonical' light, say daylight? My later version is probably in between and I quite like the idea of showing that it was taken in artificial light. This does mean that, for example, the black and white striped dress appears as not quite neutral but that is how it would look in the shop.
Tony,
For me its definitely #4. I love the expressions on their faces. I think you have capture the end of a beautiful relationship or the beginning of a more meaningful one. Well done.
Andre
And I am greedy -- I like all of them Tony -- #1 boy image is a cutie...#2 is very interesting to say the least. They must be really having a nice conversation by the looks of it, hopefully it is not about Tony Abbott's golf balls...#3 I like your edit better. Really good catch. The edit of Mike with the white and black point just do not give it a pop judging by the colour of the orange/red dress... When I correct the white point and black point if it doesn't match what I see, I just delete that layer...
You should do more street photography those thought provoking ones like #4...will be nice every now and then...Cheers!
Nice series Tony but three stands out for me and I prefer your second crop. Only one thought occurs to me and that is the two white panels top right draw the eye a bit. Might be worth taking them down a notch.
Considering that I use a calibrated monitor and you don't, I have no idea what colors you are intending and you have no idea what colors I'm intending. That being the case, there's no effectiveness in deciding which version you or I prefer because we're not seeing the same colors.
#4 does it for me. Made me smile! Great shots.
Andre, Izzie, John and Doug, thanks for the comments.
Also Mike, I am grateful for your continued comments. I need to continue this discussion after I have checked my monitor which I can't do until next week.
Izzie, I liked #1 a lot too. I usually avoid taking pictures of other peoples' children but I could not resist this time. I am going out for another session this afternoon and might get something worth while. It is always dependent on luck.
