    Alley Springs

I enjoyed my recent US holiday at a very nice national park in the Ozarks in the central US. While, I learned, there were many natural springs near by, I focused on Alley Spring. The Spring generates ~81 Million gallons of water per day. That water is crystal clear and a brisk 50-60 F (10-15 C).

The Spring empties into a "feeder" stream to a larger river that locals use for float trips and swimming. Needless to say it was fun watching the reactions as this cool water entered and mixed with the water summer water of the river.

For this photo I was working on capturing the energy of the stream. I was also trying out a post processing technique called the Norton effect.

Here I was still working on capturing the energy of the water rushing through the stream. I liked the contrast of the moving water with the still moss covered rocks.
    Alley Springs

I do enjoy the outdoors and getting off the beaten path. So I spent the evening with some buddies on a scenic drive along the river.

    Hi Bryan,

Me either. All I see are four small squares like the ones you put a tick or cross in when filling out a form??
All the text is there explaining the missing images

Hmmm... the links were unusually long, much different than last time I posted. Just Updated each photo. Hopefully now they work.

I couldn't see the images at all, but they are working now.

Nice shots, #1 and #4 are my favourites... nice compositions and love the reflection of the mill in the water.

Nice series and curiously (for me), I like the Norton effect. It doesn't always work but but has here.

I like the series. I really like 2 and 4 for the simple reason that they intrigue me, make me want to travel the path they create.

I really love this set of images... the green, the blue, the silky water, the dusty path....all are fantastic

    Re: Alley Springs

Thanks all. I appreciate the feedback. I really liked trying out the long exposure silky water, although I wish I had a neutral density filter to extend the exposure.

I appreciate the feedback on the color combinations and the "story" behind the image. Now know to try to pay closure attention to the complementary colors and search for compositions that tell stories or elicit emotions.

    Nice shots Bryan!

This is one of the most photographed areas in Missouri. And for good reason. Glad you enjoyed your visit to the Ozarks.

Hey, um, I just wanted to mention that your Alley Springs (pronounced: “Spraangs” in our neck of the woods!) in the Sept. monthly competition hasn’t shown up on my computer since you posted. Maybe just isolated to me but I thought it worth a mention since you had trouble originally.

Thanks Terry. I'll get that link corrected.
