Troubles moving from Sony Express to Gimp re histograph.

As it came into SE in Raw


As it was exported in Tiff 8


As it was read by Gimp after conversion to Gimp.


The change is to my inexperienced eyes somewhat dramatic. I have tried exporting in JPEG from SE to Gimp but it changes very little.

Any suggestions about how to get from my camera to SE to Gimp without mucking things up. (ain't tech talk marvelous)

Brian,

Those screen shots display the histogram for different channels. The SE ones are of the RGB channel and the GIMP one show the value channel. Try selecting the RGB channel on the GIMP histogram and see if it compare more closely to the SE ones.

okay... if I can find it. I found it and boy do I feel silly. For two years I have been using Gimp and I never knew there was an RGB button. Such humbling can only do my humility good.

I am not a GIMP user but if you look at the top left hand corner of the histogram window that you posted you will see a box that has the word 'value' in it. Click on the arrow beside it and I suspect that will open a drop down list with a selection of channel available. RGB should be one of the choices.
