Everybody Was Kung Fu Fighting.......

During the spring I happened upon these Purple Gallinule in what I can only describe as a "street gang fight". They really went after it, I am sure the affection of a lady was the cause. These photos were more about getting the action than being technically good I was really worried I wasn't getting it while shooting because it was just so wild to watch. CC always welcomed and appreciated.

Thanks Matt! The color is very much like hummingbirds in that the more light that hits it the more brilliant the colors. There is another class of these called a Common Gallinule which are a boring black in comparison.

I must agree. An impresive sequence. We don't get these birds in the UK, but there is a very similar species in Southern Europe.

Izzie, it was hard to keep the camera up to my eye. Unfortunately my favorite shot of the series was not as sharp as I would have liked. It had the defeated bird slumping down as he walked away, awww the agony of defeat.

Thank you John, it was. I was so shocked that they were on the street as these birds tend to be very allusive hiding in the reeds of the banks of the water. They paid no attention that I was standing there as they were too involved with the battle.
