A lone weed on our Street

Thursday ritual out here is to bring the garbage all the way to the end of street to be collected by Country Waste, Inc. They show up, collect my trash bags, then back into our street so as to go back whence they came. So this weed must have grown in the week since their last visit and is unlikely to be there tomorrow.

For me, Ted, if you had removed that foreground bit of grass which is out of focus before shooting, or managed to have it sharply focused, this would have worked well.

It's about 500 yards, Izzie. I either use the pickup truck or the wheelbarrow depending on the laziness factor. The guy came to the property entrance for a while but rutted up the street so I put a stop to that.

Ted, what kind of weed is it? I have had several people ask me as it is a favorite of both hummingbirds and scissor-tailed flycatchers and has been in several of my shots. It produces a beautiful flower. I 've always thought it look almost like the leaves of a mesquite but not sure.

Went out this morning to find the "weed" alive but suffering from some heavy rain, which will come as no surprise to you guys in Pasadena after yesterday's downpour.

According to a book I have, it's Lindheimer's Senna (senna lindheimeri), which " . . . is found on open rocky ground . . .". a perennial which blooms Sept. to Nov.

Right now, the plant is smaller than the book description of 1-1/2 to 3 ft tall, about half-size so far . . .

Thanks! The ones I have seen are that 3ft maybe even 4. It is a pretty plant for a weed but if we are truthful weren't all plants weeds at one point? Aww, things to ponder, have a great weekend looks like some nice weather for our area this week.

It made me wonder if the differentiation between plant and weed is:

If you plant a plant, it stays there.
If you plant a weed, it takes over the whole area!

You have no idea, Dave...you have no idea...when we go Texas and stopped at their rest area, I thought I will only see a small building like others, but one of their rest stop is a huge architectural building, highly techie stuff, wonderful staffs, awe-inspiring you'd think that it is a City Hall or something...a mini White House...putting the rest of the country to shame...
