Fugifilm disks won't copy photo's.

Not sure where to put this question. I have 300 photo's which I tried to burn on a DVD-RW Fugifilm blank disk through Picasa, but when it goes to preparing to write I get a message saying unable to write. I have tried through the windows way but I got the same problem. I changed disks (which have never been used) and got the same problem.

Do you think it was the disks? I have been using Tesco DVD-R disks and never had a problem. These disks which are giving me trouble, I got at the photography show in March. Also got a message from Picasa saying their were file's on them, but I don't know how that was, because they were still wrapped up in cellaphane.

Can you please advise me please?

I'm no expert Louise and someone on here might be but the only reason I can think of is that your DVD drive is not - RW compatible. From memory, drives can be +R, -R, +RW or -RW drives. More modern drives tend to be +/- R or +/- RW i.e. they are universally compatible. If you can access the drive type (might be in your computers paperwork) and Google it, it might confirm this one way or the other. Hope this helps.

I have had this problem before and as John mentions, found that I could write to +R disks but not -R. I never understood why but it's worth a try. The time I wasted is time I'll never get back (a ridiculous amount of time following suggestions about trying differnt programs for burning etc, all to no avail).

I'd go back to buying the disks you know are compatible with your drive and not waste more time or effort on it.

Thanks for your repli's. I have a box of Verbitim DVD-R blank disk's which I'll try. if that don't work then I'll have to get Tesco version. Is Tesco very good please?

I think, coincidentally, it was Verbatim I was using. +R didn't work and -R did. Give it a go but it it doesn't work first attempt, don't waste your time, just get some that you know do work.

Or, depending what you're doing it for, a USB flash drive or an external hard drive.

Don't know where Tesco have their (own brand?) discs made. If you are using these for archiving images, I would tend to buy one of the better known brands (of which Fuji is one). If all you are doing is copying images to pass onto some one else say, then I'm sure Tesco branded discs will be fine. However, before you spend more money, try to determine what will be compatible with your set up.

Before "burning" too many brands of DVDs, I would follow John 2's advice of identifying the brand and make of your DVD-drive.
Is it really a DVD-drive: to me it seems to be a CD-drive, if it doesn't accept DVD-burning.

Just had a look at the other disks I have used in the past, I have used:

Tesco DVD+R
TDK TDK CD-R80

I had this sort of problem a few years ago with a batch of discs purchased from Woolworths, but proper branded discs. They wouldn't work for me so I gave them to a friend who also failed with them. We never worked out what was the cause of this problem.

Tesco DVD and CD discs have always worked for me. Although stamped with the Tesco name they must be produced by a recognised manufacturer of some form.

Sometimes I use Verbatim instead, if they are on special offer, but I have never found any difference between them except for a slight difference in price.

I saw a report on DVD discs somewhere recently and they said that 'third party' discs from a reputable supplier were just as good as the branded alternatives.

ps. I have never understood the Windows system for burning discs. I had been using Nero but that failed after a computer operating system upgrade. A free version of Ashampoo was my next successful burner but that also failed after an upgrade so I now have the free version of Burn Aware which I find very easy to use and quite comprehensive in what it offers.

The Verbitem discs worked fine, so I will get some more of those and Tesco.
