    F-22 & P-51 -- Heritage Flight

The P-51's first flight was in October 1940; in service January 1942. Top speed 437 MPH. The unit cost around $51K (1945 dollars)
The F-22's first flight was September 1997; in service December 2005. Top speed ~1,500 MPH, The unit cost ~$150 million (2009 dollars)

Here they are flying in formation (the F-22 pilot must be idling and has flaps extend to be slow enough).

Awesome opportunity to see and great job of capturing it. The first shot is excellent. Nicely done.

There is a squadron of F-22s stationed at Elmendorf AFB(now part of JBER). A couple of years ago during the airshow they did a demonstration during which an F-22 did a near hover. I say near because it was barely moving forward, maybe 20mph or so. Incredible technology. At a price...

Two excellent shots but the first one shows off both aircraft to perfection.

A few years ago, the Pilatus PC-6 was being demonstrated at Farnborough. It could almost take to the air from a standing start because the power to weight ratio of the A/C (no doubt light) was such that there was sufficient airflow over the wing when it was stationary, to lift it. Quite a sight.

Thank you everyone for the comments. The F-22 is an amazing aircraft and the capabilities that were demonstrated were amazing.
