    On1 Upgrade

The upgrade for Perfect Photo Suite is now called On-1 Photo-10... I have liked using the Perfect Photo Suite and decided to try the upgrade.

The new Photo-10 has a haze reduction slider which is a quick way to reduce or eliminate haze, especially from landscape images.

Another think that I like about On-1 is that my license is good for five computers and the program can be used as a stand alone program. That way, I can have the program on my and my wife's desktop computers as well as our notebook computers.

I enjoy working with Perfect Resize as well as the Perfect Photo Layers.

Sure, I will keep using my Photoshop CS6 as well as my NIK Software. On-1 Photo-10 just gives me a few extra tools for my post processing!

On1 combined with LR is all I use now. So I'll be upgrading also. They claim to be improving speed and stability which is currently not good. Nice to see a vendor that recognizes user needs and is addressing them. And the resize tool (which is the legacy genuine fractal algorithm) is to be integrated in every module as the crop tool rather than having it as a module of its own. I'd rather not pay for another upgrade but will do so.

I have received several upgrades without needing to pay anything extra. I really don't mind the $89.99 USD charge for this upgrade!

I like the upgrade that have done to the Portrait Module which will recognize faces even when they are laying on their side or ar profiles.

Hi, I also use On1 but must say they bring out upgrades like mice breeding. Far to quick IMO with the upgrades although in saying that any software upgrade may be a bonus to some. Russ

    Re: On1 Upgrade

I suspect the frequency of upgrades has to do with the relative age of the company/product. IMO On1 recognized the opportunity that was created by many disenchanted Adobe users when Adobe made the decision to force PS users to go to the web based product. PS is way overkill for most photographers and the On1 product combined with LR is a much simpler and more cost effective solution. Now many of the changes they are making such as the improved browser appear to be targeted at making the On1 product a stand alone solution which replaces LR all together rather than supplementing it.

It does sound like a very good deal for $89 but I think I will keep using PPS #9 for the time being. I got sucked in with a free purchase of Perfect Effects 8. I wound up using it so much, I got the entire suite when 9 came out. I really like the black and white plug-in. I sometimes use it for the entire conversion and sometimes just for a tone or some other slight adjustment. I use it inside of Elements 12. While I also use Nik and Topaz quite often, onOne Software is easily the simplest and most fun bit of software I own.

Larry mentions... "I got sucked in with a free purchase of Perfect Effects 8. I wound up using it so much, I got the entire suite when 9 came out."

If I purchase something that I like very much, I don't consider it being "sucked in" I consider it being "introduced to"

And, sometimes I just let a lesser wording go to see if anyone is reading my posts. Thankfully, someone was in the forest when this tree fell. 'sucked in' was a bit harsh. Offering free versions of almost outdated software is a good business strategy. So far, having uploaded DxO Optics 6 and 8 for free, I haven't managed to buy DxO Optics 9 or 10. But you are right: I am grateful for having been led down this particular path. It is good stuff.

I am still entitled to a free upgrade because mine is not one year old yet...how better is it from Version 9?

My experience with On1 has been that each upgrade brings something useful and significant. One of the big claims with this next one is more efficient(aka faster) and more stable(aka less crashes). If nothing else it will be worth it for that IMO.
