    Teach the Children

Regulars here over the years, may remember our daughter the 'Fashionista' who has been my portrait model, since the course here with Colin in 2010
    Teach the Children

Whilst I've taken many many portraits of Georgie since this first one, she has now graduated with her PR degree from University & has a full time job, working in media & communications for Barwon Health.
Part of her job involves taking photos.. Of people receiving awards, Member of Parliament opening new wards etc.

One day she called me distressed that a group photo had people with very bright faces & she didn't know what to do. I asked were they all wearing black perhaps with a dark background?
This prompted a discussion as to what could she do to fix this.

So I'm sharing a couple of images to show, the 'have a go' attitude of the younger generation!
She bought the work camera home, I took her put for an hour, explained the 3 main exposure controls & how to use them. I suggested she start with either T/V or A/V as her first steps to working in full manual mode.

The next day, she puts theory into practice & takes a longer exposure time image, to show movement & hustle & bustle in a busy emergency department for their poster.
We could of course critique this & say too much blank space in the foreground, more people moving through would have been better, but I tell this story more to show her 'have a go' attitude.

This was the image, & below a screen shot of a PDF as used in the poster.

Wonderful. Congratulations to her ... and to you for being her support, her mum and an obviously very proud parent ... despite it all!!

It has been a joy and a pleasure to be able to catch a glimpse of this young woman maturing into young adulthood and to know read that she is embarked on, hopefully, a long and happy career. My very best wishes to all of you.

    Kay,

Had your daughter ever taken an interest in photography, other than modeling; prior to taking the job?

That's cool. It must be gratifying to see her doing well. Both photographically and professionally. Thanks for sharing this story.

    Re: Teach the Children

Thankyou Donald & Dave, for your kind comments, she is happy

John, no not at all, she has been a hair & make-up model sometimes, but as to getting on the other side of the camera, she just wanted to know how to take more engaging photos to go with the website/Facebook/printed brochure articles that she has to do.
She went to the X-ray dept to take a photo of the new CT scanner, only to tell the Chief Radiographer her Mum used to work here with him in the Ultrasound dept, so it was a bit of a circle of life moment.

Thankyou Dan, Dean & William for your comments

It is wonderful to see the next generation making their way in the world. It's a great feeling to know that they still listen to and respect your knowledge and opinions and continue to learn from them.
I love the way she was looking at the camera when you took the portrait. It says a lot about your relationship with her.
Great story - thank you for sharing it.

How proud you must be! I am very happy for you to see her succeed in her career and also have an interest in photography like her mom. Great Mom! Great kid! Blue eye, blond hair...that throws the jokes about them out of the window for sure!!!
