I would suggest a little less sea, or alternatively reduced sky; with my preference being a fraction less of the sea. Otherwise looks good to me.

And that speck in the middle at masthead level; is it a bird or a distant plane? Either way, I would clone it out.

A nice concept. Perhaps additional PP might bring out some detail in the sky to make it a bit more dramatic.

I tried a bit of extra processing on this and another, squarer crop.

I may have overdone the saturation for the top 15% but increasing it and contrast brought the rays out a bit better. I thought the ship needed to be a bit bigger relative to the image hence the crop.

    Hi Pat,
I really like what you are trying to do here. I find the bird, to the right of the boat distracting to the eye. So I would clone it out and add a little saturation, as Brian did.
You have applied the "rule of thirds" in your original photo. I would try stretching the "rule" even further to emphasize how huge the horizon is and how lonely a single boat out there can be.

    Hi Pat,

I like the original composition best, but I would definitely clone out the bird.

I like what Brian's done with the sky, adding a bit of contrast/saturation to bring out the rays more.

    Nice shot

Hi Pat I like your composition , I would do some more PP for a more detailed sky.

Thank you all very much for your thoughts and comments. The bird I will remove but leave the rest as it is, my hope was to capture the natural look and subtlety that I saw through the viewfinder.

Pat, here's my thoughts and comments

I really like this but I'm biased because I have spent so much time in the middle of the ocean staring out at the sea in all directions wondering how long the weather will hold out that would determine when next on dry land.

It's easy to overdo this kind of scene and it's really about combining the vastness of the ocean surrounding the lone vessel with the play of light and you have captured it well.

Here's what I would do, just remove a bit of sea and enhance the sky slightly, remove the bird (a few would have helped) and sharpen up just the boat.
