    Just Splurged on a Printer

By no means Professional, in fact it's an All-in-One (shock, horror).

After getting a Windows 7 64bit computer, the trusty Lexmark 6100's disk would not load the drivers and stuff. It was getting old and not printing real good anyway. So I took a tiny step upward and ordered a Canon Pixma 8120 which, should I choose to, is said to print good quality photos. Other reason I bought it is to scan old negatives, a cool feature IMHO - I've got lots of those (negatives, that is). And finally it fits easily into the space available, unlike truly Pro jobbies which won't fit at all

It has CMYK plus a Gray cartridge which bodes well for B&W prints if I ever do that.

Reason for posting is just to ask if anyone here has used one and had any problems?

I have the 7150 and it produces excellent A4 colour prints. I'm guessing it's the same basic engine.

Yep, I have the 7550 (I think), an A4 printer. Same number of inks, and I'm happy with it. Pity it doesn't have two full size A4 print trays, but that is another story.

I don't know if your printer comes with the Canon Easy Photo Print Pro software but, my Pixma 9000 Mark-2 has this software included. I find it very easy to print with this software.

    Ted,

I don't know the current model numbers, but I printed for a number of years on an old Canon mult-function, the MP970. It has 6 photo inks and an additional black cartridge for text. The results were generally good. The main limitation was that no one produced ICCs for it.

    Thanks for the input Dan,

Yes, I bought it as a replacement for a dying Lexmark all-in-one - but with the ability the print photos should I ever want to, So from that POV, I'll be using the printer profiles. If I got serious about printing then I would get a proper photo printer.
