Surprised to run into a Monarch on my outing last Friday afternoon. He was there for a second and then gone.

nice composition, but unfortunately quite out of focus on the body and head. that's what is so frustrating about bug macros: they rarely stay put long enough to obtain good focus.

Good find and well shot.
Yes their numbers have certainly decreased substantially since 2014(?). I saw through the whole summer maybe less than 10 whereas they had been all over the place the year previously.
