Nice shots Kim, too bad about the lighting, though. I find that you almost have to approach animal shot like these in the same way you would look at doing a human portrait. I find animal faces turn out a lot better in very diffuse lighting (cloudy day), and unfortunately you were shooting in sunny conditions.
That being said, two beautiful animals!
Thanks for commenting Manfred. In this situation, I found that the sun being out helped me with shooting the Shepherd. As mentioned, the dog was very ill and the dappled sun helped add some luster back into his coat and increase the vibrance in his eyes. I wanted the owners to see a healthy dog, rather than an ill one.
