Fishing in the Fog

My usual Sunday morning hang out spot was shrouded in fog for a few hours and I watched this scene unfold infront of me.



One question is... should I increase the contrast in the image or should I leave it as is?

Hi Paul

I don't know the time of day and it might be my screen but I think the fog is a litle 'dirty' - too dark. I like fog shots myself but you might need to add +1EV to brighten up this scene a bit. Then if you added some contrast you might have a better chance of seeing a result but as it is I think it might just darken it further. I agree with Shadowman, just try it and see but you don't want to add too much and take away from the dreamy shot that fog scenes are all about.

It was taken about 8 in the morning and this location is right on the Atlantic Ocean. My guess is that visibility was less than a 1/4 mile. I took some other shots in which I used +1 EV and it washed out the shadows a bit.

Here, I upped the contrast to 99 in PS. It looks slightly lighter and less dirty.

I prefer the original. Much more 'closed in' and atmospheric feel about it.

Seeing them both, #1 is better for me. It has more of a vignette effect that brings the subject to the eye.

I must agree with the others - your first one is better mainly for the vignette effect.
