Nice shot Randy. Unfortunately Mother Nature has decided to provide a solid cloud cover this evening up this way.

The only down side is that your necessary exposure time as the moon darkened has caused inevitable motion blur. Maybe ISO 800 and 0.3 sec might have given the same brightness but no blur.

We had clear skies here. However, I didn't set up the camera at 3:30am. Just looked.
Well done, Randy.

Re: Then let me be first to present the Blood Moon
Wow - great photos! I'm envious of those who managed to see it. I sneaked a look via webcast this morning but it's not the same.
I like how, in the last one, you've got some stars and their movement. I can't remember how I got mine last year but I remember having Mars plus one star in some of them - no motion though. Will check settings later.
Edited to add - those of mine with Mars and a star (Aldebaran I think?) in were shot at only 4s shutter speed so no trails https://rachel29002.smugmug.com/Luna...DSCF0889-M.jpg

Re: Then let me be first to present the Blood Moon
We have cloud covers all day so I gave up and went to bed early. I woke up to find it had already turned to a normal full moon but thanks for the images. They are really good. I like the last one best to represent it blur or not...

Re: Then let me be first to present the Blood Moon
I was another looker, not photographer - and I didn't wait until it turned red, I decided by 02:50 I needed my sleep more.
By 0500, the next time I awoke, it was all over; the moon was much brighter (and complete) than what I had observed a couple of hours or so earlier.
Good series Randy, well done.

Re: Then let me be first to present the Blood Moon
I drove 3 hours one way into Joshua Tree National Monument. Sat around for 4 hours, set-up and watched without a shot. A light wisp of clouds made it not worth the effort. A dark, orange blob is nothing to shoot at. I did get a few shots of the Cholla garden during golden hours. I'll process them tonight to see what I have, then post up what I think is shareworthy.
