Busy Beach

I have always wanted to shoot a beach scene like paintings I've seen, they are often almost a cartoon type look, with all different groups visible, doing their thing.
However in this day & age, it is very difficult to do that even for a female photographer.
It always needs someone close to add foreground interest & bring the viewer into the scene, or perhaps shot from above which is not possible. I tried this different orientation just to see how that worked.





The surfer images from the other day, were taken on the beach just beyond the observation tower you can see here in the distance, hardly a soul around down there...yet here in school holiday time it's cheek by jowl!

It is the lack of waves and the sheltered position & step straight from the street to the beach that draws the crowd...not our cup of tea!

Nicely captured. What do you find difficult about shooting beach scenes, is the angry stares, actual confrontations, or just feeling of uneasiness? I also am very careful of this type of photography, however sometimes you'll find a group of people, especially at beach parties; who just seem to want their photo taken.

Your foreground is well focused, gradually fading into the far distance; so it works nicely for me.

I like this shot but, don't enjoy being on a busy beach like this... Perhaps, I am spoiled with miles and miles of beaches in San Diego County, I ca usually find a relatively empty beach...

I like the image too If it was mine I would sharpen it a bit more.

Not sure I can visualise just what you mean Kay. However, that doesn't mean I can't appreciate your image. I think it works wonderfully. There are all slices of life on show and it's one of those on which you could spend hours just observing what everyone is doing, individually or in groups. I think the composition is excellent. The line from beach to trees is just in the right place and in terms of processing, you've given just enough detail to the sky.

Sometimes it's maybe not possible for folks to seek out the quieter areas, or indeed they may prefer to be 'in with the herd' and I don't criticise them for that. But this would be one of the scenes from my hell-on-earth. I'd be completely stressed out to be placed in the middle of that.

Cartoonish..yes...totally! My first thought was of the 'Where's Wally?' cartoons.

This would make a fantastic jigsaw puzzle.

I agree with Geoff and Donald on their assessment. I am not eagerly fond of crowded beaches either but this is a nice shot and I like it as an image, not to indulge in personally if you know what I mean...perhaps I mean, involved in with...

Thankyou all for your kind comments, & suggestions for improvement, my husband would go spare if we went here, we are fortunate that just beyond, this scene, there is so much space, phew!

I don't know why it should matter, but I usually feel a bit more comfortable when out shooting when I see other photographers in the area. It wouldn't necessarily lessen my apprehension at a beach, but at other venues it certainly does.
