    Barn Owl

Getting there slowly. I'm working on my long lens and stalking technique all the time and the results are getting better.......slowly. Wild birds in flight at dusk is pretty challenging to say the least. I'm going to have another bash at it this evening to see if I can get a better shot.
    C&C and tips always welcome

How much have you cropped the image as the owl looks somewhat blurry on my monitor.

Yes birds on flight with a long lens can be challenging. Based on your EXIF data your settings look pretty good. Good on you cranking up the ISO as needed to keep your ss at/above 1/1000 for BIF shooting. What focus mode are you using? I'll refrain from commenting on IQ due to the light box feature still being unavailable.

Nice effort, are you using a monopod/tripod, that has to be some heavy gear to pan for a shot like this?

I am aiming to purchase a Gimbal head for my tripod...next on the list. The 150-500 is a very heavy lens for my little pudgy hands and fingers but you did well on this. I am just wondering if the blur is because you shot at the fullest length of the lens. I do think it is best to go back a little bit at around 470mm or even 450mm for a sharper image...just thinking out loud here...

Good effort Steve. As for tips, your settings are ok so just check focus and practice practice and more practice.

That's my experience. I thought that acquiring a long lens would make life easier but found life wasn't that simple. Nice capture and worth pursuing.

Very nice. You've done well here. Birds in flight photography needs a lot of practice to get it right and also some luck.

The golfer Arnold Palmer once said "the more I practice, the luckier I get."

That is a great effort Steve. I would love just to see an owl.

    Well done.

Lovely shot, I'll leave the technical advice to the BiF experts
