    GIMP and Sharpening

Long time since I have posted ... been busy with video and ageing

Just recently I decided to give GIMP a go and to date I am very impressed ... prior use of PS Elements but my software is now a bit dated so why not try something different and free!

I have read about Wavelet Sharpening and now have it installed. It seems very effective and importantly easy to use. I had been experimenting with GIMP Unsharp Mask and decomposing the layers as suggested in the GIMP Manual ... rather complex for 'simple folk'

A couple of questions ... well 3 really:
    • What experiences have others had with the various GIMP sharpening options and any recommendations of 'which to use'.
    • Other plug-ins that are worth installing
    • Can one batch process jpg's using Wavelet Sharpening (or other) and how. I think that I could make use of batch sharpening using a preset default sharpening setting.

Rather a lot to ask but would love to get some expert opinion.

    Cheers Ron

I'm not aware of a batch sharpening option using Wavelet Sharpening, but as a tool I've been using it for years. It is excellent. I don't think there's a need for anything else.

It's good to have you back posting on here, Ron. A 20+ month absence is too long. Thought you'd gone for good.

    Thanks Donald
Its nice to be back ... though a good bit slower, physically. But I guess that I match the level of daylight here for much of the year ... slower shutter speeds

I am having fun with GIMP and I think that I will actually prefer it to PSE once I have got over some of the learning curves. The sharpening plug-in, Wavelet Sharpen, looks to be a winner with me and it is very easy to use.

Donald, This seems to be a GIMP solution to batch processing and for example, batch sharpening using Windows.
