    Cross

This was a pretty ordinary shot that I took because I liked the way the afternoon light was playing on the cross. Then I decided to have a play with it in processing to see if I could add a bit of drama to it. C&C welcome.

I like it, love the background texture it fits well.

I am not religious in the slightest so it doesn't have any religious meaning for me.

But you have definitely succeeded in making a dramatic image

I like the simplicity of it. Maybe reduce the highlight in the top left corner a fraction and I mean a fraction only.

I agree with Matt. See that hanging and it would make you stop and look. Creative and imaginative.

I like it Greg...I like the colours very much. Just that to me, a cross exposed like that shouldn't have textured background...it seemed to go against the grain of my thinking. I do not know how to explain it. But then I might be the odd one here...

You retained the lighting on the subject, the added texture is nice, and the overall simplicity works well. Nicely done.

I don't have any religious leanings either, Matt, but when I started adding colours and building up the texture layers, I became aware that I was responding to culturally acquired religious iconography. (Blue wasn't right, green wasn't right, ah, red .. that's right that's what is supposed to be like Where did that come from). And then at one stage I could see a male face in the texture - the imagination was working over-time.

Anyway, thanks for checking it out, and glad you like it.

I think I know where you are coming from, Izzie. When I first started adding the textures, it seemed like it wasn't working. But then again, without it the picture is just a cross with an almost blown-out blue sky.

Ah ... now I understand. Beauty can be change, either digitally or by feeling. Both are good mediums. Your image now speaks to me of how and why you changed the background which is really pleasant. Sorry for being too critical and for not connecting earlier. Just intrigue as to the reason why...

You are not 'too critical' at all, Izzie. I'm interested to know how others feel about it, and always happy to try to answer questions.
