    Simple memorial

During a recent holiday I saw this simple memorial, no warning signs, just a simple cross warning of the perils below. The sharp defined shape of the cross against the roughness of the volcanic rocks was what I noticed. All C&C welcome.

Good sense of place, but composition needs a bit of white to provide some relief from the grays.

Thanks for your comments John, I've tried to recover the white in the clouds a bit more.

Interesting image and the second version is a dramatic improvement. When I see these little memorials I always wonder about the story behind them. It has become customary in the USA for people to place little memorials (crosses, flowers, etc.) on the roadside where fatal auto accidents have occurred. Unfortunately they are too commonly seen.

The second one is also my choice but because the texture of the rocks are more accentuate. In the first one, forgive me for saying this, but where the cross is standing on is just like a blob of charcoal to my eyes...

Izzie thanks for your comments, you are quite correct, the rock that the cross sits upon is in fact lava rock, the whole island is totally volcanic, it consists of 412 volcanoes, but luckily only one still active
